Well, last night's game didn't work out exactly as planned but it was still a hell of a good time!
The rain was definitely a damper but during the 2 hour rain delay I got to catch up with an old friend. Thankfully, I did not attempt to straighten the hair because I would have been an unusually angry Pirates fan last night if my hair was messed up too. I did however wear flip flops which I thought I was going to slip out of and fall because they were so wet by the time the game started.
During the rain delay we got talked into the All-You-Can-Eat seats, I dropped my blackberry in a puddle and watched a couple make out up against the stairs. But once the sky finally cleared up a bit we were ready to watch Jason Kendall AND Ryan Doumit warm up. Unfortunately they weren't side by side in the bull pens but they were close enough. Awkward angles to take pictures though.
Complete A-MA-ZING-ness for the first pitch.... or not really. We were walking to our seats as they were announcing the celebrity guest to throw out the first pitch. Last night it was none other than Kirk Cameron himself. Fantastic. I'm still trying to figure out who that looks worse for, him or the Pirates.
We then got to our seats and were closely monitored the whole game. I may have corrupted a youth from Long Island because I can be a little rude at times. But hey, the kid and his Dad were laughing and joining in so I'm OK with it.
The usher in our section was insanely serious about keeping the seats organized. It was like there was a flight manifesto and he wanted to make sure the information was correct. Trust me, the 8 of us in the section were on our toes all night.
We couldn't wipe the seats off with the papers towels we brought, had to use the ShamWow's even though we were already wet and it was still raining. Then even though we were the last people in the section, no umbrellas allowed, we wouldn't want to cause a disturbance to ALLLLLL the people around us.
The big moment came when the couple with two young children moved because the teenagers sitting nest to them were being very loud, vulgar and disrespectful to the players. Our section literally had 8 people sitting in it but the usher would not let them sit down until he brought his supervisor over to OK the plan. I really think the supervisor probably wanted to slap him in the back of the head.
I was a little nervous about taking a trip down to the food stand because what if we came back and sat in the opposite seats, he probably would have made us pull our damp and faded stubs out and show him before he would shamwow for us again. We shouldn't have risked it, because when we did decide to go for hot dogs we were begged by an employee to bring her back something to eat and then when I bit into my hot dog bun, it turned to dust and crumbled. Therefore, I ate a bag of peanuts. Apparently after 5 hours hot dog buns go bad. We did however sit in our correct seats because we did not want to cause a disturbance.
There was a father and son in front of us at the game and (luckily) they had just as sick of a sense of humor as us so we got along great. The two travel around to different baseball fields each summer and just check out the teams and the cities. Very cool summer for that kid.
When the rain started again we decided we had had enough and went to stand under the bleachers again. Luckily we did so just in time to see Kendall get into a slight altercation with his former team. Very fun. I always like seeing a grown man being carried away by an even bigger grown man. No one was thrown out of the game, it all returned to normal. The Pirates even tried to lose it in the 9th by giving up 3 runs.
In the end it turned out to be a pretty good game, good times. I finally got to my car and plugged the BlackBerry in and was bombarded by "Big Ben charged with sexual assault".....Uh oh, here we go!
