Workin' for a Living

First, I want to take a minute to be thankful that I have a decent paying job, one that allows me to support myself and prove that I am now an adult.... Sort of. But still, this is not my career.

Part of my morals tells me it its not right to ask people who are sick and injured for money. On the other hand what I'm doing is actually preparing them for the bills that they are going to eventually face anyway. The positive spin on this is that one the department is running the way it should be, we should be contacting patients far enough in advance to allow for better financial planning. Also we do have options for payment arrangements and programs that can help people. I fear that many of these people would not ask for help on their own. However, by contacting these people I am offering an alternative to them losing their life savings.

I feel like integrating my position with other segments of staff so that we can all be on the same page about what message we should be presenting to our customers.

And all the while I'll be showing that I have the initiative to take charge of something to improve the overall situation. We need a straight line from the first person to speak to the patient all the way down the line.

Star 100.7

So Star announced that they would be giving away NKOTB tickets during the lunch hour so we were desperately waiting for the question to come up.

Finally around 12:45 it did and thanks to google I had the correct answer. My co-worker and I both were calling on the office phones and I was calling from my cell phone. Finally my cell phone kept ringing and I didn't get the generic "all circuits are busy" message.

Then the song on the radio ended and my line was cut dead. To matters even more upsetting the man who answered didn't even really get the answer right. It was another answer because the question wasn't clear enough.

So I'm off to keep trying and listening to the radio constantly from now until the concert!

Blogging On The Bus

I've been seriously neglecting my blogging responsibilities. So I've decided since I have a 15 minute shuttle ride to and from work I should make good use of this time. New plan.... Blog on the bus.

Last night I had one of the most embarrassing moments of my life. I went to the local watering hole with a friend of mine for dinner and they were replaying Pitt's loss to Villanova to go to the final four. In my own defense I was harassing the bartender to change it because I didn't want to go through that heart breaking loss again.

About 20 minutes later I could hear guys behind me talking about the game. Without even turning around I said "I'll ruin the surprise, Pitt loses" at that point one of the guys says "yea I know, I play for them.". So obviously I turn around and see Mr Dejuan Blair, the All-American Pitt basketball player!!!!

Clearly my face was fire engine red while he and his friend stood behind me watching the last 2 minutes of the game. Everyone sitting on my side of the bar heard it and they tried not to laugh until Blair walked away.

When he finally did go to his table I asked the bartender why he didn't stop me. He said it seemed to happen in slow motion. He realized that I didn't know who was standing behind me but it happened too fast for him to get my attention. So I'm sure that will be the talk of the bar for a few days and I'll hear all about it the next time I stop by for my LIT fix.

Well that worked perfectly. I'm pulling up to the hospital and my story is finished. This new technique might work out perfectly!
